FatWire Buys Wiki Maker Infostoria

Author: Alison Snyder

FatWire Software announced Monday it acquired Infostoria, a Setauket-based maker of Web-based software that specializes in social applications like blogs and online networking.

Mineola-based FatWire already makes software that enables businesses to create their own Web sites. However, the addition of Infostoria’s software will enable FatWire’s users to add blogging, tagging, social networking and user-generated content elements to their Web sites, said Loren Weinberg, vice president of marketing and product management at FatWire.

"How companies are using their Web sites is changing," Weinberg said. "It used to be that Web sites were just one-way communication, but collaborative features built into Web sites today allow companies to build a community around their brands,"  she said.

Dmitri Tcherevik, chief executive and founder of Infostoria, will join FatWire as chief information officer. The acquisition will also bring Infostoria’s Ukraine-based development team of 12 to FatWire, though that team will remain overseas.

FatWire did not disclose the monetary terms of the deal.
