The Cornell Lab of Ornithology (www.birds.cornell.edu) at Cornell University has implemented UpdateEngine6 from FatWire, Mineola, NY, to build and manage a Web site that lets users submit bird sighting information from anywhere in the world.
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology needed a user-friendly content management system that would support hundreds of thousands of contributors and provide workflow for managing submitted content. Scalability was crucial since individual projects can attract more than 100,000 users. The Lab also needed to integrate with an existing digital asset management system storing thousands of different bird calls in audio files.
Besides offering the content management and workflow tools the Lab needed, UpdateEngine6 is written in Java, which facilitated integration with the Lab's digital asset management repository.
