Former CA exec takes over Mineola's FatWire

Long-time CA Inc. technology veteran Yogesh Gupta has taken the reins of Mineola-based Web-software developer, FatWire Software, as its president and chief executive, the company announced Tuesday.

Gupta, most recently senior vice president and chief technology strategist at CA, had been with CA since 1989, when it acquired Cullinet Software. He'd joined Cullinet in 1987. At CA, spent five years as chief technology officer, and held top posts in product development, marketing, strategy, planning and business development. He launched the company's flagship, Unicenter software.

Gupta at FatWire takes charge of all global operations, including sales, marketing, development, finance and professional services, the company said. He also joins FatWire's board.

In an interview, Gupta called his decision to leave CA and join FatWire "bittersweet," noting that he leaves "a lot of friends" behind at CA. He said his aim is to build on FatWire's technology and customer base.

"I get to take a company in an exciting marketplace that can be grown to a much larger entity than it is today by making customers more successful and scaling up the products," he said.

FatWire makes software tools that help companies and institutions deliver and manage content on their Web sites.

Gupta replaces Andrew Gyenes, who had taken the position earlier this year on an interim basis while the company's board searched for a new CEO. Earlier this year, company founder Mark Fasciano gave up the CEO role and departed to form a new company, 411Karma.com, which he started with FatWire co-founder, John Murcott.

Gupta said while FatWire also serves the broader enterprise management end of the business, there's little or no overlap between its products and those of CA, which he said, "is getting stronger by the day."
