Partner Release: Speeding Enterprise Portal Deployments: BEA Portlet Gallery to Showcase 1,000 Application Portlets Online in Six Month

SAN JOSE, Calif., --BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS), one of the world's leading e-business
infrastructure software companies, today announced the new BEA Portlet
Gallery(TM), as well as 66 initial companies that have qualified as BEA Portal
Star Solution partners. With a network of 2,100 partners, BEA expects to reach
its goal of 1,000 content, Web Services and application portlets posted to the
BEA Portlet Gallery by the end of April 2002. A portlet is a module within a
portal that provides real-time access to information or applications, such as
news, weather, email, discussion groups and more.

The BEA Portal Star Solution initiative is designed for partners who will
meet one of the following criteria: they build application portlets for BEA
WebLogic Portal(TM) 4.0; they integrate their applications to BEA WebLogic
Portal 4.0, or they develop consulting practices around BEA's portal product.
With BEA Portal Star Solution partners, customers will be able to easily
create specific portals for their own partners, suppliers, customers and
employees leveraging pre-integrated partner solutions for content management,
search, syndicated content, security, collaboration, Web Services, and
business intelligence and analytics. Many of the partners that have qualified
for the Portal Star Solution initiative, including leading system integrators
and independent software vendors, are already building and integrating
portlets, portal applications and serneed to achieve maximum value while providing immediate impact and tangible ROI," said
Joe Eazor, CEO of Springbow. "Our solution set encompasses a wide range of
Web-enabled services and is centered on enterprise portal design and
implementation. For this reason, all of our solutions are built on enterprise
technology from BEA Systems."

"Bowstreet enthusiastically supports BEA's efforts to form a partner
coalition around a standard portal framework," stated Rose O'Donnell, vice
president of engineering, Bowstreet.  "By providing integration to BEA
WebLogic Portal, Bowstreet enables customers to achieve tremendous economies
of scale when rolling out families of portal applications to address multiple
e-business initiatives.  When standardized, the components found in the BEA
Portlet Gallery can be assembled by Bowstreet into massively customizable
portal applications that reduce maintenance costs over the life of the
application."

The BEA Portlet Gallery is an online community highlighting partner
solutions integrated with the BEA WebLogic Portal, to be available from
http://www.bea.com at the end of November. The gallery is designed to allow customers
and system integrators to access and search hundreds of application, content
and Web Services portlets. The BEA Portlet Gallery will allow customers to
quickly browse and select the portlets that best fit their needs. Detailed
descriptions, white papers, FAQs and demos will allow customers to take
immediate advantage of the offerings within the BEA Portlet Gallery. Through
the gallery, BEA's software partners will have a much greater opportunity to
work with BEA's system integrator partners to create repeatable solution sets
and business practices targeted at specific industry verticals.

"Our clients expect us to deliver platform technologies that can be
tailored and quickly integrated into their enterprise," said David Reinke,
vice president, Braun Consulting. "With the introduction of BEA WebLogic
Portal 4.0 and the BEA Portlet Gallery, we can quickly access, assemble and
integrate best-of-breed technologies from vendors like Documentum, Business
Objects and Autonomy into the BEA WebLogic E-Business Platform. This model
enables our clients to more rapidly introduce sophisticated interactivity with
their customers and partners which lowers total cost of ownership and helps
build competitive advantage in the marketplace."

The initial 66 qualified partners, as well as joint customers, will
benefit from BEA WebLogic Portal's strict adherence to Java standards, open
portal foundation and integration services. BEA Portal Star Solution partners
