A Strategic Partnership

FatWire recently announced a strategic partnership with EMC. Now I’m sure many of you are thinking that partnership announcements in the tech world are dime-a-dozen, so what makes this one any different. Let me share with you some insights into the partnership and why I believe this relationship will change our industry. So let’s start with, why did EMC decide to partner with FatWire?

The primary reason why EMC chose FatWire as its strategic partner for Web Experience Management (WEM) solutions was FatWire’s clear leadership in the WEM market, in terms of product, vision, domain expertise, and presence among enterprise customers worldwide. Both EMC and FatWire have a common vision of how the needs of interactive marketing will evolve, and FatWire has a single-minded focus on delivering on those evolving needs. EMC discovered that not only did FatWire have the early lead in the market (we even coined the phrase WEM!), but our unrelenting pursuit of that vision made us the right strategic choice.

What makes the EMC-FatWire partnership unique is its multi-faceted nature and the impact it will have on three key constituencies – our existing customers, our prospects, and our partners. The partnership includes EMC going to market with FatWire WEM solutions as its strategic offering and, conversely, FatWire going to market with Documentum Brand Management solutions as its strategic offering in that market. The partnership also calls for joint R&D including extending the already existing integration between Documentum and FatWire products and researching new products for interactive marketing.

EMC has also invested in FatWire and taken a minority stake to accelerate FatWire’s ability to continue to deliver on our vision. This investment enables FatWire to bring additional resources to bear on solving the needs of our mutual customers, while continuing to stay agile, independent and focused on aggressively gaining market share.

I will share my thoughts about the impact of this partnership in upcoming entries of the CEO Corner, so stay tuned. In the meantime please listen to my podcast on the topic at fatwire.com/emc to hear my perspective in a bit more depth, or email me at askyogesh@fatwire.com.
